Why do you think it’s so important for your characters to suffer?

Hmmm, well, while this question kind of sounds like someone trolling, it’s actually something I’ve thought a lot about, but requires a bit more time to explain than I have right now. I’ll try to write a metawriting entry on suffering here in the next week or so.
